How does a biogas plant work?
In a biogas plant, all the biomass (including our food waste) is collected and mixed with shredded plants.
Then everything is pumped into a heatable container, the fermenter. A digester is impermeable to gas, water and air. At a constant temperature, bacteria in the digester begin to convert the biomass into methane gas/biogas. The top cover of the digester is flexible so that it can adjust depending on the volume. The more biogas in the digester, the more space is needed.
The biogas is now discharged from the digester to a block-type power plant. Through the combustion of the gas, electricity and heat are generated. The electricity can be fed into the public grid and the heat can be used to heat the fermenter and other things around the biogas plant.
